Privacy Policy
Effective October 19, 2026
Pillar Apps runs Hang at hanginperson.com and in the Hang apps. This policy says what Hang collects, why, who else handles it, and how to delete it. Questions go to support@pillarapps.com.
What Hang collects
- Your account: your name, email address and password. The password is stored only as a hash.
- Your friends: what you enter about the people you want to see, such as their name, nickname, phone, email, birthday, address, notes and how you met. You add these yourself; Hang does not read your contacts.
- Your activity in Hang: hangouts, groups, lists, the friends picked for you each day, and what you log after reaching out.
- Google Calendar, if you connect it: permission to read your events and to add hangouts you confirm. The access tokens are stored encrypted.
- Notifications, in the app, if you turn them on: a token from Apple or Google that lets Hang send that phone a notification, and which kind of phone it is.
- Usage and errors: pages you open and how long you stay, your browser and device type, your time zone, and error reports. Error reports can include a recording of the screen around the error.
How Hang uses it
- To pick the friends to reach out to each day, suggest an activity and draft the first text.
- To send the reminder you choose, as a notification on your phone if you turned them on in the app, otherwise by email, and invite emails you ask Hang to send.
- To add confirmed hangouts to your Google Calendar.
- To keep Hang working, secure and free of abuse.
Hang does not sell your information, show ads, or use it to train AI models.
Google user data
Hang's use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Calendar data is used only to show your schedule and add hangouts in Hang. It is not shared, sold or used for ads.
Who else handles your information
Hang uses these services to run. Each gets only what its job needs.
- Supabase: database and sign-in.
- Vercel: hosting and page analytics.
- Resend: sending email.
- Sentry: error reports.
- Google: Calendar, only if you connect it.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service: delivering notifications in the app, only if you turn them on. They get the phone's token and the notification, which names the friends picked for you.
- OpenStreetMap services (Nominatim, OSRM, Overpass): the addresses you type into "meet in the middle" are sent to them to find places between you.
Hang shares information otherwise only when the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
Your choices
- Change your name and reminder email in Settings. Turn reminders off there, or with the link in any reminder.
- Disconnect Google Calendar in Settings. Hang revokes its access at Google.
- Turn notifications off in your phone's settings. Signing out of the app stops them on that phone.
- Delete your account in Settings, under "Delete account". Your friends, hangouts and history leave Hang at once, your profile's personal details are cleared, and you cannot sign in again.
How long Hang keeps it
While your account is open. When you delete it, your data is removed from Hang immediately. Deleted records stay in the database and its backups, marked deleted and unused, until they are purged. Write to support@pillarapps.com to have them purged sooner.
Children
Hang is not for children under 13, and does not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes, and a significant change is announced in Hang.
